3. Obtain an ANUBO license and install anuboXBRL add-ins
To use anuboXBRL, you need:
-
an ANUBO license (Reader or Analyzer), and
-
the anuboXBRL add-in in Microsoft Excel on a supported platform (see Chapter 4).
You install the add-in only once. Upgrading or downgrading between Reader and Analyzer does not require reinstallation.
The recommended way to get started is to begin on anubo.com (see Section 3.1).
3.1 Recommended: Start on anubo.com
This is the recommended way to get started with anuboXBRL. It is the simplest and fastest way to begin.
You can also watch a short 3-minute video walkthrough.
Step 1 – Get your license
Go to anubo.com and choose one of the following options:
-
Get Reader Free to use the free Reader
-
Go to the pricing page and select Subscribe now to use an Analyzer edition
-
If you already have a Reader license and want to upgrade, go to https://account.anubo.com/account/billing/license to review and choose your upgrade options
Follow the registration and checkout process to activate your license.
Step 2 – Follow the guided process (Excel will open)
After completing registration, you can usually follow the recommended buttons shown on the website if the anuboXBRL add-in is not already installed on your machine and has not been deployed by your IT administrator.
Excel will open automatically. You may be prompted to sign in with your Microsoft 365 account to grant the required permissions.
The full process is shown in the video.
Step 3 – Start using anuboXBRL
Once Excel is open and your license is active:
-
The anuboXBRL add-in becomes available
-
The functionality (Reader or Analyzer) is automatically enabled based on your license
Important: Only install the anuboXBRL Add-in if it is not already visible in Microsoft Excel (Insert → Add-ins). If you already use any anuboXBRL Add-in (Reader or Analyzer), or if your organization has deployed the add-in centrally, you should not install it again. Installing the add-in multiple times (for example separate Reader and Analyzer entries) can lead to duplicate add-ins in Microsoft Excel and may cause errors or unstable behavior. If more than one anuboXBRL Add-in is visible in Excel, one of them should be removed.
3.2 Alternative: Start from Microsoft (Excel or AppSource)
You can also start directly from Microsoft Excel or from Microsoft AppSource.
This approach is typically used if you prefer to install the add-in first or if you discovered anuboXBRL within the Microsoft ecosystem.
Step 1 – Install the add-in
-
Open Microsoft Excel and go to Get Add-ins, or visit Microsoft AppSource.
-
Search for anuboXBRL and add it to Excel.
Step 2 – Sign in and obtain a license
-
Open the ANUBO add-in in Excel.
-
If no ANUBO license is detected, the add-in will guide you to a separate page where you can choose between:
-
completing the registration to use the free Reader, or
-
purchasing a license for an Analyzer edition
Step 3 – Reload the add-in
-
After obtaining a license, go back to the Microsoft Excel window.
-
Click the Reload Add-in button in the ANUBO add-in.
-
Your license will then be recognized and displayed in the add-in (top right corner).
-
Alternatively, you can close and restart Excel and open the add-in again.
Step 4 – Start using anuboXBRL
-
The add-in is ready to use.
-
The functionality (Reader or Analyzer) depends on your license.
3.3 One add-in for Reader and Analyzer
Each ANUBO add-in for Microsoft Excel can be used for both Reader and Analyzer.
It does not matter whether the add-in was originally installed in the context of Reader or Analyzer. Any installed ANUBO add-in can process both license types without limitations.
Important principles
-
You only need one ANUBO add-in in Microsoft Excel.
-
Do not install an additional ANUBO add-in if one is already available.
-
This applies regardless of whether it was originally installed for Reader or Analyzer.
Avoid multiple installations
-
You must not have more than one ANUBO add-in installed at the same time.
-
If multiple ANUBO add-ins are visible (e.g. duplicate icons in the Add-ins list or task pane), uninstall one of them.
-
Running more than one ANUBO add-in can lead to errors and unstable behavior.
Typical scenarios
-
If the ANUBO add-in is already available in Excel (e.g. from prior Reader or Analyzer usage), do not install it again.
-
If the add-in is deployed centrally by your IT department, no manual installation is required.
-
If you switch between Reader and Analyzer, you continue using the same installed add-in.
3.4 Installation for organizations (administrators)
This section is intended for Microsoft 365 administrators who want to deploy the ANUBO add-in for multiple users.
When to use this approach
Use this approach if:
-
You are a Microsoft 365 administrator.
-
You want to roll out Reader/Analyzer to multiple users or groups.
-
User consent for apps is disabled or restricted in your tenant.
-
Your organization prefers to control who sees the add-in.
Note: Please check whether an ANUBO add-in was already installed individually on the device. If so, it should be removed before you deploy an ANUBO add-in centrally to the same device, to avoid duplicate add-ins.
Follow these steps to deploy the add-in centrally:
-
Microsoft 365 admin: Go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
-
Go to Settings → Integrated Apps → Upload custom apps.
-
Select Office Add-in and provide the manifest URL: https://prod.azan82.anubo.com/app/v1/manifests/anubo-addin-stable.xml.
-
In Microsoft Entra ID → Enterprise applications → anuboXBRL → Permissions, click Grant admin consent for:
User.Read,Files.Read.All,email,openid,profile,offline_access. -
Ensure Integrated Apps and user consent policies allow add-ins.
-
You and your colleagues then find the ANUBO add-in available in Microsoft Excel automatically. Based on the login email address, the correct license (Reader/Analyzer) is applied automatically.
Result
-
The ANUBO add-in becomes available automatically in Microsoft Excel.
-
Users sign in with their Microsoft account.
-
The correct license (Reader or Analyzer) is applied automatically.
Important notes
-
Only one ANUBO add-in should be deployed per device.
-
Do not deploy multiple add-ins in parallel.
-
One deployment is sufficient for all users, regardless of Reader or Analyzer licenses.
